Lowe's Motor Speedway is taking out some seats in Turns 1 and 2 to make room for about 20 luxury motorhome spots.

A few thousand seats will be removed, speedway president Marcus Smith said. In its 2008 annual report, the track reported that it had approximately 162,000 seats, including suites.

"We had a lot of demand for high-end camping from fans and sponsors and people who love to camp," Smith said. "We haven't seen any fall-off with camping, even with high gas prices [last summer]. We're very appreciative of our camping fans. We want to give them what they want, and they are asking for more amenities."

Robby Gordon won the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge off-road race in Nevada on Sunday.

Fresh off his third-place finish in the Dakar Rally earlier this month, Gordon fell behind Saturday during the first day of the two-day race, finishing second, but was able to bounce back Sunday on the 6.25-mile course.

Despite being 13 seconds behind after Saturday's eight laps, Gordon took the lead early Sunday and finished with a total time of 1 hour, 57 minutes, 54 seconds. He finished 4 minutes, 13 seconds ahead of the runner-up team.

Darlington festival returns this fall

Darlington Raceway's Historic Racing Festival will return this fall.

Track president Chris Browning says the two-day event will be held the weekend of Sept. 26-27.

Browning says the dates were moved from Labor Day weekend to accommodate more entries in the second-ever festival. Those who attended in 2008 got to meet several racing greats like David Pearson, Junior Johnson and Darrell Waltrip. They also saw exhibits featuring landmark race cars, including two that A.J. Foyt drove to victory at the Indy 500.

Nearly 100 cars drove Darlington's 1.366-mile egg-shaped track.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
